“I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
They shall never hold their peace day or night.
You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,
And give Him no rest until He establishes
And till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.”
- Isaiah 62:6,7 NKJV
This has been the prayer of Jewish people over the ages at the Pascha, the Jewish Passover, when they pray. “Next year in Jerusalem!” That prayer remained unfulfilled until 1948, when the miracle happened. On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion called the independent state of Israel into being.
The Scriptures are riddled with passages teaching that our Almighty God is ready, willing and able to answer the prayers of His followers.
Ask of Me… That is the condition – God desires a praying people, willing and obedient.
The miracles of Israel’s Exodus from Egypt and journey to the Promised Land were all answers to prayers. So were Jesus’ miracles of stilling storms, providing food, healing the sick and raising the dead. As the early church formed and grew and spread throughout the world, God answered the believers’ continual prayers for healing and deliverance. They prayed and God answered their prayers. Thus, the cause of God was kept alive in the world by the flame of their praying.
Someone has said that when we work, we work, but when we pray, God works.
Also today God shapes the world by prayer. We are to pray – to pray for the advance of God’s cause. The more praying there is in the world, the better the world will be and the mightier the forces against evil everywhere. Prayer puts God in full force in the world.
Even though the Jewish people and the nation of Israel desperately desired peace, peace has historically eluded this tiny nation and this particular people. Have you ever wondered if this would be the case had the Church been fulfilling her biblical mandate and praying for her peace and protection?
It’s not too late to begin now.
