Biblical understanding about Israel

September 29, 2016

A blessed week in Thailand

By Kees Brouwer, Christians for Israel Representative in Thailand

In September 2016 we hosted C4I International President Willem J.J. Glashouwer for a speaking tour in Thailand. It began on 9th September in Bangkok. On Friday evening 9th and the whole day Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September in Praise Church Bangkok. I was wondering – will Willem manage such a punishing schedule? But Willem was full of energy., as always. He sees it as his calling to preach the gospel of the Kingdom to the church worldwide. His message is that God still loves his people Israel, his first-born son, and he is bringing them back to the land as he has promised (see e.g. Ezechiel 37), because he wants to bless the church and all nations too!

Following a day off on Monday, on Tuesday we visited the BIT (Bangkok Institute of Theology), the theological faculty of the Christian University in Bangkok, and part of the CCT churches in Thailand. It is here that future CCT pastors are trained. 120 students and teachers attended Willem’s teachings about Jesus’ ministry on earth and his return in glory to sit on the throne of His father David in the midst of His people Israel (Luke 1). Willem is translated into Thai by a lady who was a medical doctor but is now studying theology. The students were amazed by the teachings, and we agree to hold another study day at the BIT in 2017.

From Bangkok we travelled to Chiang Mai. There Willem spoke in the “Karen” church (mountain tribes) about 67 km north of Chiang Mai. The primarily young audience was really excited by this message, and renewed their commitment to love and support Israel and the Jewish people. In the car afterwards, the leaders of the church said they said that they had never heard such clear Bible teaching. We gave them free copies of the book “Why Israel?”.

On Thursday and Friday morning we teach in the Lahu Bible School, where the students pounce on the book table after the lectures! After lunch, we rush off to the airport to travel back to Bangkok where Nuon, our representative in Bangkok, is waiting for us. On Saturday and Sunday we teach in the Wattana church in Bangkok, and in the evening we attend a Keren Hayesod fundraising dinner with Thai business leaders.

In short – this was a blessed week. Now that Willem has visited Thailand four times, the message about the Kingdom is starting to become established and gain maturity. There remains much to do to teach Christians in Thailand about the Kingdom of heaven, and the treasures hidden in the Old and New Testaments!
