Biblical understanding about Israel
In the Mennoblatt, Magazine for Congregation and Colony the following article was published.
Filadelphia, September 16, 2014 - 85th year of publication, number 18.
Introduction:
Rev. Willem Glashouwer visited Paraguay from August 11 - 25, 2014 to strengthen the work of Ebenezer Operation Exodus in the churches and to teach (in German) to the Mennonite communities proper understanding of the Scriptures who were struggling with Replacement Theology. This came in a very strategic time that The Lord prepared since Paraguay is the only nation in South America in favor with Israel denying to sign an embargo in Mercosur due to the Gaza events!
The article follows below.
WhyIsrael?
Teachings with Rev Willem J. J. Glashouwer from Holland.
By Mariechen Toews (Menno).. As President of the movement “Christians for Israel International” and as author of multiple books (e.g. WHY ISRAEL?), Rev Willem J. J. Glashouwer (photo) has been invited in many congregations.
After his teachings in Asunción, and in Itapúa, he came to the Chaco. The teachings by Rev Glashouwer took place in the Beth-El Church of Loma Plata from 21nd through 23rd of August, 2014. I would like to highlight some elements of the content of his teachings. He spoke about Israel and the Church.
Why Israel and what has this to do with the End Times? How do we deal with that as Christians? He emphasized how important it is that God made the following covenants with His people, the Jews.
1. The Abrahamic Covenant (Gen. 12:2)
2. The Land of Israel/Canaan Covenant (Gen. 13:15)
3. The Davidic Covenant (2 Sam 7:10-16, Psalm 89)
4. The Levitical Covenant, the eternal priesthood of the Levites (Numeri 25:10-13)
5. The Jerusalem Covenant (Ezekiel 16:60-62)
6. The New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
7. The Covenant of Peace (Ezekiel 37:20-28)
8. The Covenant of the Law, the Covenant of Sinaï, the Mosaic Covenant, the “Old Covenant” (Exodus:24)
In Romans 11:25 it says: “I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved.” God temporarily and for our sake partially blinded the Jews, so that we, the nations, the non-Jews, can be saved. This era is not endless. It is a secret of God.
God promises His people during all ages that He will gather them and will bring them back to the Promised Land, as He once promised Abraham, in Genesis 13:14-17, 15:18-19 and 17:7-8. In Isaiah 43:5-6 He says that He will bring His people from the east and the west, from the north and from the south. Yes, He will extend His hand to the nations so that these nations will bring His sons and daughters, the Jewish people, home to the Promised land of Israel. In this context this means that God will use His bride, the Church of Christ, for this purpose.
God wants the Christians to love the Jews and pray for them, that they return home and that the Christians willingly help them. We have the opportunity to bless them with loving actions and to take notice whenever there is a need and faithfully help them. The return of our King is imminent. We can recognize that by the return of the Jewish people. Because Jesus wants to reveal Himself to His own people in Jerusalem (Zechariah 12:10-14) and they will recognize Him.
In the same way that He ascended into heaven He will return. But before He will return a number of prophecies must be fulfilled.
1. The whole world must be told the Good News of the Gospel of the Kingdom
(Matthew 24:14).
2. The people of Israel must be restored (Acts 1:6, Romans 11:15, 25-29).
3. The preparation of His bride must be completed (Ephesians 5:25-27).
And thus when the fullness of the Gentiles has come in, then all Israel shall be saved, Romans 11:26
Rev Glashouwer has called us to examine ourselves whether we are prepared to meet the King. Are we prepared for this ‘Kingdom to come’ that is at hand? Therefore it is important to have a close relationship with God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to be firmly based, when different times arrive.
Every time prior to the teachings there was time for worship. Worship is the best we can bring God our King. It links us together, we can regard Him as our Father when we seek Him during worship. Worship lets doubts, fears and troubles disappear and promotes our inner healing. Are we prepared to practice, to praise God wholeheartedly, pray for Israel’s peace and bless His people? Why this war in Israel, why do almost all nations turn against Israel?
Because the enemy knows that his time is almost over and he is doing everything he can in order to block God’s plans and purposes for Israel. And the Islam will conquer the whole world – so they say. There should be no Jews and no Christians on earth. When you are in favor for Israel it does not automatically mean that you are against the Palestinians. But you are against the enemy that wants to unleash his hatred against Israel. He not only wants to destroy the people of Israel but also those who love God’s Word. It is repeated several times in Scripture: “May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed!” (Gen. 27:29).
The meetings were organized by Ebenezer Emergency Fund International (Operation Exodus), The Paraguayan Pastor Union (APEP) and volunteers from the Chaco. The DVDs of the meetings can be ordered with Horst Siemens (Philadelphia), 0981 422 846, after office hours.
