ECI Young Adults Conference

The European Coalition for Israel (ECI)organised a conference for Young Adults in The Hague from Thursday the 22th June until Friday the 23rd June. A group of twenty-six young adults came together in The Hague to share, discuss and learn more about Israel in International law and diplomacy.

On Thursday we kicked of with a meeting at the Israeli Embassy, where the Ambassador of Israel to the Netherlands Haim Divon and Legal Adviser Shoshi Reshef Mor answered several questions on the position of Israel in international law. Following this visit a short two minute trip was made to the Dutch Parliament, where we met with several Dutch Christian MP's. During the time of sharing, these MP's gave an interesting impression on how to work and cooperate with even your greatest opponents in Parliament. Thursday night finished of with a great meal at Pillar of Fire, followed by a time of worship and sharing personal stories and dreams.

On Friday morning we visited the Peace Palace, where Dr.Matthijs de Blois gave a general introduction to International law. We then walked to the Centre for Israel Documentation and Information (CIDI), where Esther Voet (director of CIDI) shared about her work and some her experiences in the working field thus far. After a wonderful lunch Matthijs de Blois shared on the ICJ 2004 Advisory Opinion concerning the Israeli Security Barrier, which was followed by a presentation of a German participant on the question of 'How to explain the Israeli-Palestinian conflict 5 minutes?'. Andrew Tucker (Legal Counsel, ECI) finished the congress with a presentation on key topics within the controversies around Israel in International Law today. After a final group discussion, most of the young adults went back to their countries; equipped, strengthened, encouraged and inspired to be a voice for Israel and a blessing for their own nation in the days to come.

The organization of the next ECI Young Adults meeting is expected to be scheduled either before or after the Annual Policy conference on 19th November, 2014. More information will be provided soon. We have also asked Keshet to start organisation of an ECI Young Adults "Fact finding" trip to Israel in May 2015, immediately after the Global Prayer Call (GPC) conference (10-14 May 2015).
