Biblical understanding about Israel
On May 8, 2015 it will be 70 years that World War II (in Europe) came to an end. With this the Holocaust, the greatest atrocity and tragedy of mankind, came to a halt. On January 27, 2015, Holocaust Memorial day, it will be seventy years that the infamous concentration camp of Auschwitz was delivered. These are highly important commemoration days – for the Jewish world and especially for the Jewish nation Israel which until today is threatened by a second Holocaust. And because this is so significant for Israel it should also be significant for the Body of Christ as well as for those nations who want to be a blessing for Israel.
Being aware of the high sensitivity and importance of this period of time, around 100 days, for the Jewish people and Israel, three European ministries have joined hands in order to launch a unique, global prayer campaign. These three ministries are: “Christians for Israel International” (The Netherlands), “European Coalition for Israel” (Belgium) and “Operation Exodus – Ebenezer International” (UK) in order to spearhead this prayer call. It is my privilege to serve as the coordinator of this campaign.
There is a line of revelation in the Holy Scriptures concerning this topic which reaches from Genesis to Revelation. On the background of the rebellion of the nations against God with the building of the tower of Babel (Genesis 11) God calls a unique man (Abraham) to develop a unique people (the Jewish people) with a unique calling (to be a blessing to all nations) – Genesis 12,1-3. But in order for those rebellious nations there is one condition: Those nations who want to receive this blessing must in turn become a blessing for Israel (Vers 3). If they do not do so, God will withdraw his blessing from them. This is a fundamental Biblical law which runs throughout history.
At the end of our era, in connection with the second coming of Christ, the Scriptures tell us about a “Valley of Decision” Joel 3:14-16): Nations will gather in battle against Jerusalem. But the Lord will intervene. This is also confirmed in the New Testament, in Matth. 25,31ff, where it says: But those nations which will not join this battle and will end up on the “Sheep”-side at the Valley of Decision, will finally be healed by the leaves of the “tree of life” (Rev. 22,1-2). On this basis, every loving and concerned Christian should ask the question: “Where will my nation be?” On the sheep-side or on the goat-side? The key factor is the relationship of your nation to the Jewish people and to Israel.
As a Christian for Germany, it for many, many years has been my question: “Can there be any hope for my nation?” But then, slowly, I saw that there is true repentance in our nation. Then I witnessed the miraculous unification of Germany – without bloodshed. I was amazed by the grace and favor which Germany was experiencing – from God and from men. Not least from Israel. Could it be – I started timidly to ask myself before the Lord – that there is a way of redemption for our nation? That – may be – the Lord wants on a national level make us, who were by far the “last” with regard to our guilt against the Jewish people – the “first”? In other words: To make us an end-time witness of God’s grace on a nation? As we learn to be a blessing to Israel? This is an ongoing process – and I believe the answer to the question remains to be seen. But on this background the Lord opened my eyes gradually to the Old as well as to the New Testament as to how He sees nations and which unique role Israel – and the Messiah of Israel! – has in this.
On this background, we as “Christians for Israel” together with the allied ministries ask you for your involvement and participation in this Global Prayer Call 2015. Please look at our project-website
