Israel & Christians Today

Biblical understanding about Israel

”…For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain…” Philippians 1: 21

Thinking about Henk this Bible-verse came to my mind.

When I met him after many years again – when he picked me up from the Airport in Auckland – in the car during the drive to his home he told me about his life in New Zealand. How the Lord Jesus had become such a living, personal reality for him – and for Sytske and the children, and the grandchildren.

Full of fire he testified about the great reality of the personal discovery he had made of the truth of Galatians 2:20 “…I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me…”

It was the beginning of a new relationship with Henk & Sytske and their children. Through Bible-study during that first visit they immediately discovered and accepted the Biblical truth of Gods everlasting covenant-relationship with the Jewish people and Israel.

And immediately he decided to become the editor of a New Zealand edition of ‘Israel & Christians Today’. First as an insert in the Christian periodical he published ‘Challenge Weekly’, but soon as a separate publication. And he established a branch of ‘Christians for Israel’ in New Zealand. The publication became the English International Edition for the whole of the English-speaking world.

Over the years Henk and I travelled through many countries, especially in South East Asia. Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia ‘to spread the message’. Also in the USA and South Africa. And during the International Board Meetings in the Netherlands Henk always surprised us with his spiritual and original insights about how to develop the ministry of ‘Christians for Israel International’ worldwide. We all benefitted from it.

Now he has gone to be with the Lord. To be with the Lord in glory, awaiting the glorious day of the Resurrection and the restoration of all things, when the times of refreshing will come. As the Apostle Peter says in Acts 3:19-21 “…that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that He may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus. Heaven must receive Him until the time comes for God to restore everything…”

May Sytske and the whole of Henk’s family feel the closeness of the Lord by His Holy Spirit to comfort them as no one else can.

In thankful memory of this beloved brother and personal friend,

Rev. Willem J. J. Glashouwer, President Christians for Israel International.
