Biblical understanding about Israel

C4I Uganda facilitates visit of Israeli Minister in Uganda

Israeli deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon was in Uganda in August for a two-day official visit to strengthen ties between the countries, and commemorate the Israeli-led raid on Entebbe Airport in 1976, in which 100 Israeli hostages were rescued from terrorists.

Christians for Israel Uganda was honoured to be involved in organizing some of the events during Deputy Minister Ayalon’s visit. C4I Uganda organized and selected the guests who attended the inauguration of a new trauma centre at Mulago Hospital – the largest hospital in Uganda, which was built by Israeli’s in 1962. Now, 50 years later, Israel came to bless the same hospital, in Uganda’s 50th jubilee year celebrations (Uganda obtained independence in 1962). The prayer at the opening of the ceremony was offered by Christians for Israel Uganda.

During his visit, Minister Ayalon openly gave thanks to Christians for Israel for their support and help. He stated that Israel intends to intensify its relationship with Uganda, on many fronts. One of these is to stimulate Ugandan Christians to visit Israel. “Our plan is to have pilgrims coming from Uganda to Israel, and then tourists and Israeli investors coming from Israel to Uganda. We intend to start with charter planes to make routes easier and faster”.

Christians for Israel (C4I) Uganda was established in 2008, and functions as the head office of Christians for Israel in East Africa. C4I Uganda works in close cooperation with C4I International, based in The Netherlands, which is the head office of the global Christians for Israel movement.

Christians for Israel now has affiliates and representatives in twelve countries in Africa, and the movement is growing rapidly. The primary mission of Christians for Israel is to educate Christians about God’s purposes with Israel, the church and the nations. Christians for Israel emphasises that the Church has not replaced Israel as God’s chosen people. Instead, while through Jesus Christ God’s grace and mercy has opened up to all peoples, God’s promises and covenants with Israel remain valid, and Christians should recognize the restoration of the nation of Israel as fulfilment of Biblical prophecy which points to the coming of Messiah. All of this has major ramifications for the church’s self-understanding.

In September 2012, C4I Uganda will host a four-day regional conference in partnership with C4I International, to be attended by 50 key Church leaders from eight East African nations. C4I Uganda produces and distributes the newspaper Israel & Christians Today, publishes and distributes C4I educational materials (books, DVDs and brochures), and organises regular educational tours to Israel. The Chairman of Christians for Israel Uganda is Drake Kanaabo.
