Dear readers,

This edition of the Messenger contains some deeply concerning issues. There can be little doubt we are living in a momentous period of world history. We may not know exactly what is coming, or when, but some things are for sure: difficult times are ahead for the Western world, and especially the Jewish people and Christians in the West. One senses that the "mystery of godlessness" is coming towards fullness (read 2 Timothy 3). But equally certain is that there is hope - these signs of the times in the world and in the spiritual realms point to the coming of Messiah, and the Kingdom of heaven. Let us lift our heads, because our redemption is nigh! (Luke 21:28)

May the Lord bless and strengthen you.

Editorial: “I will send for many hunters” (Jeremiah 16)

By Andrew Tucker.. On 27th September, together with my colleagues at the European Coalition for Israel (ECI), I attended a conference in the European Parliament entitled ”The future of the Jewish communities in Europe”, to which ECI was invited alongside Members of the European Parliament and European Jewish community organizations. Hundreds of Jewish community leaders from across Europe expressed their deep concerns about the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe. Many Jews are questioning whether there is a future for them and their children.

End-Times Geopolitics Revolving Around Turkey

Only weeks after an attempted coup threatened his rule, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is on the move both militarily and diplomatically. Turkish forces are continuing their offensive against American-backed Kurdish forces. And the West is reeling from Turkey’s sudden rapprochement with Russia. Now experts in prophecy warn the continued rise of Turkey and Erdogan has ominous eschatological implications.

In What Practical Ways Can You Support Israel?

One of the things we are asked most by our readers is what they can do to help Israel in a practical way in these difficult times. It is easy to perceive a hands-on approach as more effective, and many seem ready to settle for nothing less. But the truth is that not everyone (in fact, very few) can actually move to Israel, pick up a gun, pen, camera, etc and physically join the fight.

Israeli Settlements in the “Occupied Palestinian Territories”

>> We are losing the battle in the war of ideas for the simple reason that we are continuously on the defensive while those seeking our destruction actively and relentlessly demonise us. Ever since the Oslo Accords, successive Israeli governments have felt obliged to understate and even dismiss Palestinian terror and hatred in order to maintain domestic public support for policies that, alas with the benefit of hindsight, were doomed to fail. In the very early stages, Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat told his people that the ultimate goal was the end of Jewish sovereignty – and we dismissed such outbursts as empty words merely designed to placate his radical domestic opponents.

Ukraine suppresses the memory of the Holocaust

By Gerhard Wilts.. Plaintively sounds the Kaddish, the Jewish prayer for the deceased, over the desolate churchyard outside Mariupol. When rabbi Menachem Cohen falls silent only the muffled artillery of the Ukrainian fighters is audible in the distance. Peace seems far away still.

Israel: Covenants & Kingdom - Rev. J.J. Willem Glashouwer, President Christians for Israel International

Over the years I have struggled to come to a new understanding of the Jewish people; Israel, Jerusalem, the Covenants, the Biblical concept of the Kingdom, the past, present and future from a Biblical perspective. I have published a trilogy with the titles ‘Why Israel?’, ‘Why Jerusalem?’ and ‘Why End Times?’ My daily devotional on the Book of Revelation, day-to-day, verse-by-verse, grew into a small commentary on the Book of Revelation! Now I would like to present my new book, ‘Israel - Covenants & Kingdom’.

PRESS RELEASE - Friday 14th October 2016

Christians for Israel condemns the resolution adopted by UNESCO yesterday 13th October 2016 on "Occupied Palestine". The resolution, in which Israel is repeatedly called "the occupying Power", attacks Israel's activities in and around the Temple Mount, and calls on Israel to stop obstructing Jordanian and Palestinian "restoration" works on the Temple Mount. The resolution refers to the Temple Mount as "Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif", thereby rejecting any historical or religious connection between the Jewish people and the Temple Mount.

Work visits to Ukraine

Each year Christians for Israel organizes a working visit to Ukraine. These are one-week trips (from Saturday to Saturday). At the beginning of the week the participants spend one day packing food parcels, which are then brought by bus to poor Jewish families in various cities and villages. Christians for Israel organizes several working visits each year. They are especially important in the lead up to winter. In 2016, trips are planned from 22-29 October (full) and 10-17 December (open).

The Mutating Virus: Understanding anti-Semitism

Below is a transcript of a speech by Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks at “The Future of the Jewish Communities in Europe” Conference at The European Parliament on 27th September 2016 in Brussels. The hate that begins with Jews never ends with Jews. That is what I want us to understand today. It wasn’t Jews alone who suffered under Hitler. It wasn’t Jews alone who suffered under Stalin. It isn’t Jews alone who suffer under ISIS or Al Qaeda or Islamic Jihad. We make a great mistake if we think antisemitism is a threat only to Jews. It is a threat, first and foremost, to Europe and to the freedoms it took centuries to achieve.

Aliya Fair in Kharkiv – about 1,200 visitors!

On the threshold of the new Jewish year 5777 a huge event took place in Kharkiv (Eastern Ukraine) on the 18th of September, 2016. The Aliyah Fair opened its doors for more than 1,200 Ukrainian Jews that consider moving to Israel sooner or later. The event was organized by the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) and sponsored by Ofek Israeli, the foundation of aliya support. Some of the potential olim already passed a consular check and are completing their final paperwork before aliyah. Other potential olim just started to think about Israel as an option for their future life. A special group of the Fair’s visitors are Jews from Lugansk and Donetsk (war region). Many of them moved to Kharkiv since it is the biggest Ukrainian city nearby.

Religious education of olim in the "First Home in the Homeland" - Project

For many years in the USSR the government followed an unofficial policy of state atheism, aiming to gradually eliminate religious belief within its borders and to replace it with atheism. Jews living in Ukraine or Russia were not allowed to show their Jewishness and many of them changed their names and surnames. They even burnt all the documents with evidence of their Jewish origin. Parents stopped talking Yiddish with their children and left this language as a "secret code" between them.
